Lawn mower engine wont turn over?

Most lawnmowers use a remote solenoid located near the battery, to control the power to the starter. The key switch sends the 12 v signal to the solenoid which then energizes the starter. There should be a single wire which comes out of the engine housing (shroud) which when grounded kills the engine, when ungrounded allows the magneto to fire the spark plug.

The complicated part is all the safety kill switches they put on mowers – makes it hard to figure out which 2 wires you actually need!

the red wire is for a fuel shut off on the bottom of the carb. white is for the kill and the black should be ground. now for the starter you will need the solenoid off the mower. what you do is run one bat cable from the + side to the solenoid(one of the larger terminals) and another bat cable from the solenoid to the starter(opposite of the other cable) run you a smaller wire from the bat with a in-line fuse to a push button switch(one side of the terminals) then the other goes to the solenoid. you may have to put a ground on your solenoid some come pre grounded. the easiest way to find your kill wire is to start it and then ground out you white wire momentarily to see if it kills it. the wire from under the shroud should be for the charging system. hope this mess helps lol
