New Audi R8 GT
Audi has finally revealed the long-awaited R8 GTA, which is lighter and more powerful than the R8 V10. Modifications include a thinner glass windshield and polycarbonate rear windows. Many of the normal R8’s aluminum body panels with carbon fiber. In total, Audi’s engineers were able to shave off 220 pounds off the standard R8’s curb weight.
Under the R8 GT’s hood, the 5.2-liter V10 has been boosted from 525HP to 560HP. The engine can only be mated to Audi’s R-Tronic hydraulically actuated semi-automatic. This setup is enough to launch the R8 GT from 0 to 62 mpg in just 3.6 seconds and to 124 mph in 10.6 seconds. The terminal velocity has been increased to 198.8 mph.
Only 333 units of the Audi R8 GT will be built, making it a collectors item. Although not made official, we expect that some of these units will be allocated to North American buyers. The R8 high-performance sports car has been a winner from the very beginning. This applies to both the production models, winners of the “World Performance Car” Award in 2008 (R8) and in 2010 (R8 V10), and to the race car, the R8 LMS, which won 23 races in its first season and claimed three championships. The genes of the race version are now coming to the street – in the R8 GT. The exclusive series is limited to 333 units. Each R8 GT has a badge with its production number on the shift lever knob.
